I've always been a little bit of a wanderer. My Mom...well, my Momma...was that way too. She moved around all the time; any time I went to her house for the summer, she lived somewhere different. But to me, who lived in the same house for a straight ten years (for me, that's a huge record), it was EXCITING. There was always something different and new going on, fun things to discover and do.
Fast forward to me, age 29, and I am JUST LIKE MY MOTHER. I tried hard not to admit that for a while, but it's no use. I'm my Mother's daughter. I'm a chronic renter. I rearrange my furniture once at least every 3 months. I get bored with design and get that itch to change things. A new color, a fresh pattern, a different style.
This is how I got started in the world of DIY. But not just DIY...cheaper-than-DIY DIY. I recycle whenever possible, shop smart, and sometimes, I pray. And all because my idea of "budget" is way way way cheaper than some people's idea of budget. Especially now; and thus, the concept for this blog is born. Lately, I've been out of work to take care of my Dad. He's disabled, and lives with me, which presents a unique set of complications. I'm also a fine arts student in college. Gah. I have a big, rotten dog who sheds his weight in fur every day, and a 11 year old kitty. And now...
My partner and I are moving in together. HOLY CRAP. We've found a house together, a 1940's bungalow, a block from the water, close to everything. It even comes with the white picket fence. We're renting, of course...the gypsy in me balks at the idea of buying a house. But really, it just doesn't make sense quite yet. We both agree that we haven't quite made it to where we're going...so why buy just yet in such a bad market?
So, anyway. Renting. CUTE house, but...I now have the challenge of making it a beautiful, functional home for myself, my partner, my Dad, my dog, and my cat. The challenge is doing it on a serious BUDGET and making it RENTAL FRIENDLY.
WHEW. Not only that, but this is a whole new city, a whole new lifestyle...I haven't done the domestic thing in a while!
So welcome, world, to my new adventure...
